James W. Armstrong Store
101 W. Riverside Drive

Built in 1798, this building was the mercantile store of James H. Armstrong, a noted southern sympathizer.

After the Battle, Armstrong suggested to Basil Duke, leader of the Confederate forces, that all guns belonging to the militia be confiscated to prevent any problems in the future. The bodies of the Augusta Home Guard killed during the battle were brought here for identification. Recently, it operated as the Beehive Tavern and Restaurant, which closed in 2011 after 25 years in business.
